Title:

A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Punta Gorda, Florida, as local host agency for the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program, authorizing the City Manager to establish the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program part-time research and outreach specialist position, using U.S. Environmental Protection Fiscal Year 2017 carry-over funds; administer the funding on behalf of the City; and providing an effective date.

Position cost for FY18:  $16,417.58 ($15,225.00 – salary; $1,192.58 Fringe)

Recommended Action: Staff recommends City Council approve the proposed resolution.
Summary:

The Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program (CHNEP), hosted by the City of Punta Gorda, has need for a new part-time staff position – Research and Outreach Specialist, funded with Fiscal Year 2017 U.S. EPA carry-over funds. The position is an interdisciplinary specialist who works as part of a team to implement the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) and annual workplan. The position is primarily responsible for supporting citizen science initiatives, providing scientific research support and science communications and implementing science-based public engagement, information and education activities.
